Just Eat The Damn Cake: Capitalism, Red Velvet, and a Black Holiday

It was Sunday, May 22, 2022 when I saw the tweet that sparked my outrage. Walmart had released a “new” ice cream in celebration of Juneteenth. I had to blink twice. Were these people for real? Nah, couldn’t be. But they were dead serious. My ancestors had been reduced and commodified to red velvet and cream cheese ice cream. Beyond insulted, the following day I decided to take the Juneteenth ice cream discussion to LinkedIn. I wanted to see what the “diversity” and business experts had to say. 

Let’s just say that sometimes raising hell pays off…
